Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa (MUSAN) is an underwater forest, the first of its kind in the world. Consisting of over 93 artworks by Jason deCaires Taylor some of which are in the form of trees, others which are figurative in nature. The artworks, in particular those which represent trees, are designed to attract marine life on a large scale and as such will develop organically.
MUSAN is accessible to both divers and snorkelers within 200m of the Aiya Napa coastline (Pernera beach). It strived to create a habitat for life in the ocean while examining the impact of man on the natural world. It is an aquatic treasure for Cyprus, since its uniqueness in combination with Ayia Napa’s marine environment create a special project, the like of which isn’t offered anywhere else.
MUSAN is a water journey into the relationship between man and nature, as created by the renowned Jason deCaires Taylor. The artist uses his knowledge and skills as a sculptor, marine conservationist, underwater photographer and scuba instructor to create unique works of art, which respond to the place they are put and enhance marine life. It is a landmark for Ayia Napa and the promotion of the marine environment of Cyprus, since it is an unmatched experience that combines the natural environment of the sea with art in a way that stands out.
